Data Update | Low Birth Weight

30 August 2017

The latest combined 3 year figures for 2014-2016, for Low Birth Weight Babies has been added to the KnowFife Dataset. These are available under the Theme health and Wellbeing under the topic Child Health and Maternity and Births.

Low birth weight refers to babies born at full term who weigh less than 2500g.

This includes, at all geographies the indicators:

- number of live singleton births;

- number of low weight live singleton births (under 2500g)

- % singleton live births under 2500g.

The fall in percentage of singleton live births under 2500g has been interrupted with a small 0.1% increase with the 2014-16 data for Fife as a whole. The last 5 data points by Area committee can be viewed by clicking this link. Dunfermline, Cowdenbeath and Glenrothes Area Committee areas continued to fall whereas the other four areas had small rises in low weight births.

Similarly, the figures have updated in the General Health Profile, with an example here at Fife's Interzones. You can select a different geography or area from the drop down menus.
